Finding Your Personal Style…Again

I write about finding your personal style every blue moon – usually when my own personal style has changed. I really enjoy writing about this topic because I feel like it’s not talked about enough anymore. I personally believe with trends coming out weekly,  style has taken a backseat. With the rise of awareness in overconsumption on social media, I thought now would be a good time to find our personal style once again. Check out my other personal style posts here and here if you want to get a feel for how I go about finding my style.

The truth is, a person’s style naturally changes over time and that is completely normal. During college, you could find me in blue jeans and a white top or sweater all the time. I was definitely giving off Parisian Chic vibes back then. Towards the end of college up until about two years ago, I lived in Rocker Chic clothing. Most of my wardrobe was black, grey, and white and my go-to was jeans, a black tee, a leather/bomber jacket with some black boots. Now, I’m slowly morphing into Minimal Romantic/Boho and I’m honestly not quite sure how I got here. You can catch me in more flowy, feminine pieces that are still in a neutral color palette and usually paired with something fitted if it’s two pieces.

Now that I’ve rambled on about my style evolution, let me really get into what this post is about. First and foremost, I will always say this when talking about style and that is to figure out what your uniform is. What items do you reach for when you don’t know what to wear? What is a tried and true garment in your wardrobe that you can’t live without? This could be a wide-legged jumpsuit that can be worn year-round or a fitted denim dress that flatters every single curve. I know these don’t sound like uniforms, but chances are you will purchase more garments like them once you realize those are the items you tend to reach for. For example, take inspiration from the wide-legged jumpsuit and shop for wide-legged pants or jeans and choose some fitted, structured, and loose tops to pair with them. That would essentially be a uniform that can be built off of with other versatile pieces.

I’m sure this is known already by most, but chances are you’re going to have a main style and a few different other styles seeping in your wardrobe. That’s also very normal because nobody wants to wear the same type of thing ALL the time. Notice, the styles I mentioned earlier were a combination of two different styles. Typically, no wardrobe is going to be just Classic without inspiration from elsewhere. In my opinion, that’s exactly what personal style is, a mixture of 2-3 different styles. While I’m more Minimal Romantic these days, I also tend to throw on joggers and crop tops/bodysuits. I don’t really know where jogger outfits fall under when it comes to style but I have a few outfits that are like this. The athleisure look would technically be my secondary style. With that said, don’t be afraid to shop for other garments that may not exactly be your first choice. While we love versatility, we also love variety.

Before I close out, I also want to include a little tip that I mentioned in my previous style post. Don’t forget to find YOUR thing. The thing is something that ties all of your outfits together and really makes your style yours. My thing for now is longline cardigans, jackets and kimonos. Because my Minimal Romantic style is still being developed, my “thing” may actually change especially once the colder season starts. I will definitely have an update on how that could look in the coming month or two. While this post wasn’t exact steps on how to find your personal style, I will have that coming in the next couple of weeks. I want to be as thorough as I possibly can and still be brief. So, stay tuned for that!

I hope this helped anyone out there who may be trying to find their aesthetic or personal style when it comes to fashion choices. It can take awhile to do all of this but the end results are so worth it.

Thanks for reading,

ChelsiKay
