How to Style Broad Shoulders in the Fall

During the Spring and Summer, I combated my broad shoulders so beautifully, I’m almost sad the warmer days are nearly gone. Almost sad though. I love Fall just like every other fashion lover does because it’s the best time to truly showcase how stylish you really can be. However, once the days became less warm, I pondered how I was going to keep up with my new minimal romantic style, stay warm, and continue to combat my broad shoulders. I definitely want to focus on the styling broad shoulders in this post though, because apparently, my last one was pretty helpful for some out there. So keep reading if you want to know how to style broad shoulders in the Fall time.

Focus on the Necklines

Lose the crewneck and scoop neck shirts and sweaters or at the very least, limit them. Crew and scoop necklines cover one of the most feminine attributes – the clavicle. Sweetheart, square, low scoop, and v-neck is the way to go to create those small triangles throughout the outfit. Plunging necklines are also a good go-to if you like that look better. What about turtlenecks or mock necks? KEEP THEM SIS! Turtlenecks are such a classic staple, it would be absurd to let go of them. I want to make a separate post about all the different turtlenecks really soon to talk more about this.

Focus on the Sleeves

It’s a good thing bishop sleeves, puffy sleeves, and bell sleeves aren’t out of style yet because they do such a good job at hiding broad shoulders. If you can’t see them, then they’re not there, right? Usually, these sleeves are accompanied by the previously mentioned necklines but not always. Even so, with puffy sleeves, you’re really not focused too much on the necklines as much as the sleeves anyway. If you do have extremely pronounced shoulders though, I would definitely tread lightly with the overexaggerated sleeve trend.

Show Some Leg

I know, I know it’s going to be cold BUT that’s exactly what tights and socks are for! I feel like high slits are going to come back again; double slits may also be making a comeback too. However, we can show some leg in shorts too by adding socks or over the knee boots. You guys know the look, I don’t have to explain. Drawing the eye away from the upper half is always a good tip in my opinion because nobody (even you) is focused on your shoulders – it’s all about the legs and how elongated they look.

So, those are the tips and tricks that I think will work pretty well in the cooler months. The neckline tip is especially my favorite because you get to experiment with different necklines you may not have chosen before. I find that sweetheart and square necklines actually suit me a whole lot better and they make me look a little closer to my actual age. For those who have super pronounced shoulders, you may want to consider showing a little more leg instead to completely draw the eye away from the top half and it’s so much more fun and different than the typical jeans or leggings look.

I hope these tips helped once again, please leave a comment if you have tips of your own! Thanks for reading.

OMG I absolutely adore those necklines on you! I’ve been so nervous about trying square necklines but I think your post just convinced me. I’ve felt embarrassed about my broad shoulders before and didn’t even consider how the neckline of my shirt might be contributing to making me insecure. Ugh, I’m wearing a scoop neck shirt today! Why couldn’t I have found your post sooner lol.
