4 Summer Basics Every Wardrobe Needs

For years now, I have been working on curating a wardrobe that just works for the summer months. It’s hot, humid and uncomfortable most days and what you wear can pretty much make or break how one deals with the summer heat. Dresses and rompers are definitely a must-have during the hot months, but there’s also some basics that can make summer a little bit more bearable. Keep reading if you want to know the summer basics I reach for the most that have gotten me through these heat-filled months.

Crop Top

There’s so many crop tops to choose from – long, short, colorful, sleeveless, you name it. I’m a huge crop top wearer mainly due to my long torso, but also because I love them so much. I think every woman no matter what shape or size should own one. My personal favorite is the tried and true cropped shirt with no bells or whistles. Think basic cotton white tee with the bottom chopped off or just tied up. These crop tops tend to be on the longer side and aren’t exposing too much skin and tend to look great with high-waist jeans, skirts, shorts, etc. I personally own a handful of these tops – some are loose-fitting, others are form-fitting. Like I said, I’m a huge crop top wearer.

Tube Top

Once upon a time, this would have never been on this list due to my own comfort issues when it comes to tube tops. For some reason, I feel like tube tops have gotten so much better with time and fit all different sized women now. It really doesn’t matter what your size is, you will probably look great in a tube top! I’m especially a fan of tube top bodysuits because they are the best of both worlds. If in search for a good tube top, definitely look for one that has elastic all the way around and has a good grip on the chest. If you’re still uncomfy about wearing one then definitely opt for a halter instead!

Linen Pants

I am officially Team No Jean Shorts this summer because they are incredibly uncomfortable and ride up like nobody’s business. Maybe I just have terrible luck when it comes to finding jean shorts but I’m over them until further notice. One garment that I am loving so much this season is linen pants. Linen is breathable, light, and airy – it is truly one of the best fabrics to wear during the hot months. If I could have a whole summer wardrobe filled with linen, I would be one happy camper. Linen does happen to be pretty expensive, however, linen blends work pretty well too and so does the price. I personally opted for pants over shorts because there’s just something about wearing pants with a more revealing top.

Racerback Top

This is a staple that should be in everyone’s wardrobe year-round. Oddly enough, I never see posts or videos about the ever versatile and stylish racerback top. Back in high school, my uniform was dark wash jeans paired with a beater (racerback.) I wore the same thing every single day, but just a different pair of jeans and a different colored top. Naturally, I still have this type of top in my wardrobe, just not nearly as many as before. When in doubt, I will typically throw on a racerback with any type of bottoms and go on about my day.

There’s my list! I hope some or one of these pieces sparked some inspiration for you next outfit. I plan on doing a fall/winter version of this in the next couple of months. If you’ve been here for awhile, you know how much I love the cooler months. Stay tuned! Thanks for reading,
