The Glow-Up Series: 3 Ways To Find Your Personal Style

Welcome back to the Glow-Up Series part 2! If you haven’t read last weeks posts about that dewy and glowy skin life then check them out here and here. You won’t be disappointed. This week we’re switching to fashion and how to find your personal style with three easy tips. Funnily enough, I started this blog by writing about fashion and capsule wardrobes and now I write more about skincare. I still have a love for fashion but in a completely different way and that’s curating a style that is both comfortable and stylish. I’ll get more into that in a later blog post, but if you want an idea of how I’m slowly curating my wardrobe check out my Slow Fashion Challenge. Let’s jump into this blog post!

Finding your personal style is actually not that easy, believe it or not. You can shop to your heart’s content and only end up wearing half of the clothes you purchase. I mean you probably only like a quarter of the clothes that’s hanging in your closet..be honest. Some of this is purchasing when bored or emotional, literally buying into trends, and feeling like you got a good deal on a cheap garment that doesn’t fit very well. Most of this is because of marketing and how much “noise” there is. Scroll down your Instagram or Facebook feed and see how many sponsored fashion post pop up – everything is pretty cute, right? The awesome thing is, you can block out the majority of that “noise.”

My first and most important tip is to wear what is comfortable. It doesn’t have to be sweats or leggings either. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people pulling and tugging at their clothes on a daily basis. I’m even guilty of this and I hate that feeling of discomfort in the middle of the day knowing that I can’t really do anything about it until I get home. Maybe dresses and skirts are the most comfortable for you. Maybe you would rather keep your arms covered than have them exposed or vice versa. I personally feel great in mid-rise jeans and some sort of crop top or bodysuit. A basic top and a dark wash jean is basically my uniform, which brings me to my next tip. bodysuit outfits

Have a uniform. I’ve said this in most of my fashion posts, but if you’re new here – hello! A uniform equals a go-to outfit in many different variations. This requires you to actually shop around and never settle. Say you’re looking for a pair of jeans, you may have to spend a little more than usual and look at MANY different stores. You want a good fit, your booty to look bomb and something that is soft yet contours perfectly to your body. Once you found the damn near perfect jean, buy it again in a different color or style. Have a back-up store to fall on if your go-to sells out or you don’t want to spend as much. Start doing this kind of shopping with more of your wardrobe pieces. You’ll start to see your wardrobe becoming more and more curated.

This last tip is probably my new favorite. A few years ago I probably would have kept it at two tips and then said to accessorize, but oh have I grown. Ready? Ok. Find YOUR thing that ties all of your outfits together. Technically this is accessorizing but not always. Don’t worry, you can have multiple things. Only you can figure out what yours is – it might be a waist belt, colorful handbags, high heels, black tees, you name it. My thing is longline jackets/sweaters/cardigans, combat boots, and sneakers in the fall, winter, and spring. Summers tend to be pretty hot but I will rock a colorful kimono in a heartbeat. You’ll know you found your thing when your outfit photos look pretty similar and/or if someone tells you, “you always wear _________.”

Your Thing Style

While finding your personal style can be time-consuming and possibly expensive, it is so worth it. You’ll almost always feel and be comfortable in anything that you wear and you’ll feel pretty confident too. You probably won’t buy into nearly as many trends which in turn, saves money over time. I believe that once you find your style, you’ll always look pulled together even if you’re secretly not.

I hope this was helpful to some out there. Check back on Thursday for another Glow-Up Fashion & Style post.
