Packing for Travel Style Tips and Tricks

I have just got back from Palm Springs, California and it has been quite the journey. I stayed in L.A. for three days prior to making the drive down to the real desert. I’ve learned my lesson since the last time I’ve done a domestic trip and did not carry around a stupid duffel bag. Seriously, guys, it’s just not a good idea – opt for the rolling backpack or suitcase simply because you love your shoulders and neck.

You guys know me, I’m always looking for the best way to work smart and just make my life a whole lot more simple. So, I came up with some tips that may be able to help some of you all out there when you’re traveling. We all would like to dress stylishly while being comfortable but also without being charged a ton of baggage fees. Keep reading if you want to know my tips and tricks for packing that you may have not already known.

Pack Mostly Dresses and Bodysuits

Oh my goodness, I am so glad for these garments because they make packing a whole lot easier and you don’t have to really think about putting anything together. I especially love bodysuits because they tend to actually roll or fold up better in your luggage. It’s also really easy to mix and match with skirts, shorts, pants, and jeans. As for dresses, there are just so many styles that can easily make you look stylish. I almost forgot to mention rompers, but they seriously come in handy when on a tropical vacation.

Pack Less…Really

You’re going to buy something while you’re vacationing, don’t fight it. The weather can easily switch up on you or you just forgot to pack something. It also won’t kill you to wear the same thing once or twice. I have a three bottom (pants, jeans, shorts) rule. I only pack three pairs of bottoms excluding skirts, activewear, and whatever you fly in. The rest are going to be tops and/or bodysuits and of course, dresses. Shoes, of course, depend on the climate – with this trip I had one pair of sandals and heels, two pairs of sneakers and some flip flops to wear to the pool and in the hotel room. You’ll be surprised at how you maximize your wardrobe when you don’t have as many options as you would at home.

Dress “Basic”

All this really means is to wear neutrals and garments that are going to be easy. You can look really nice in just a white tee and dark wash jeans.  Of course, you’re going to have pieces that are on the dressier side, but keep them to a minimum. Save the bulky clothes for a winter vacation or a business trip. I’ve traveled with people who try to come up with intricate outfits just because they’re on vacation and they usually end up being pretty uncomfortable and not liking their outfit very much. Do less and wear clothes that you would wear back home.

Have a hair game plan

As you guys know and see, I have naturally kinky curly hair and the last thing I want to do is spend an hour doing my hair. I love installing box braids, but that literally comes with a headache and I wanted to be as comfortable as possible. I rocked my hair in twists and then let my curls flourish while in LA. I then flat twisted my hair back up and rocked a protective style the majority of the trip. Once the flat twist had their moment, I donned my headwrap, which was received very well.

The key to all of this is to dress like yourself and in your style. All too often we go on vacation, wanting to wear things we wouldn’t normally wear and end up stuffing things into our suitcase or being super uncomfortable. Always leave a little wiggle room in your bags for souvenirs and clothing you may purchase while you’re on travel. I hope this may have helped someone. As always, thanks for reading,
