How I Cured My Dry, Chapped Lips

I’m back! I know I’ve been away for quite a while, but I’ve been trying to figure out some things for this here blog. You guys know I always want to put good content out and lately, I’ve been having a bloggers block…if that’s actually even a thing. I’ve also had some trouble with my work-life balance, but I think I’ve figured out a good routine that I will talk about in a later blog post.

Today, I want to talk about my dry lips. I know what a topic right? So, this winter has done a number on my skin in general but my lips have probably taken the worst beating. When the chapped lips first began, I made a DIY lip scrub and mask that only worked temporarily. I tried chap sticks – organic and non-organic and even tried going without it for a few days, but there was no relief.

In early January, my lips peeled and would even crack and bleed if it was an especially dry day. At one point it got so bad that my lips had a dark ring in the middle of them. Now, I’m not bragging…maybe a little…but I have a pretty nice set of lips and this dryness really gave me the blues. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper and it was time to find a solution.

You can see a little darkness here.

After a little research, I learned that most chapsticks, even the organic ones, could be irritating to the lips especially if they contain peppermint/menthol. Also, if the main ingredient is beeswax or vitamin E or any kind of sealant, this CAN (not always) trap the dryness in rather than providing moisture. Basically, the constant application was counterproductive and probably making things worse.

After a little more research I learned that using lip products with lanolin in them could help a girl out. Typically, these products contain lanolin and beeswax, shea butter, or coconut oil. The two products that I have been using that have lanolin in them are Lanolips and Dr. Lipp.

I got them at the same time to test them both out and because you just have to have a bedside lip balm and a purse lip balm. I like them both equally to be completely honest. After two weeks of use, I no longer have a black ring on my lips and very minimal dryness even when I don’t apply any product.

If you’ve been having problems with chapped, dry winter lips then definitely try out a product with lanolin. Make sure you’re not allergic or sensitive to the ingredient and if you are, then stick to beeswax, coconut oil or good ‘ol Vaseline. I hope you guys loved this post.
