My Extra AF Winter Skincare Routine

Can we just talk about how dry this winter has been so far? I can deal with the actual coldness outside, but this dryness is starting to mess with my skin and you guys know how I feel about my skin. Over the last few weeks, I have developed a seriously extra AF Winter skincare routine to combat any dryness that I have been experiencing.

The key to combating dryness is obviously hydration and that is exactly what I have added into my routine. Another good tip is to seal the moisture/hydration in with a nice creamy layer otherwise you’ll just let all the moisture escape.

My morning routine is a little less extra since I do wear makeup and don’t want too many layers on my skin. The first thing I do is wet my skin without any cleanser as per usual. Then I tone with my trusty Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Toner to get any dirt or dust that may have gotten on my skin during the night. This is where the extra part comes in. I spray mineral water – Avene Thermal Spring Water all over my face to add moisture back into my skin. Then, I take my La Mer Treatment Lotion and dab it into my skin. This can be done with any essence lotion, I just happened to “borrow” my mothers La Mer for this step. After that, I take my lovely Sunday Riley Juno Oil (2 drops) and rub that into my skin, focusing on my eyelids and lips. Since I typically apply makeup right after my routine, I will add my Glossier Priming Moisturizer.

Nighttime is when I really go over the top because the temperature tends to drop and we run the heat AND I sleep with a fan on. So, of course, I’m going to wake up with desert-like skin the next morning. I start off with taking my makeup off with the Neogen Calendula Cleansing Water instead of cleansing oil. I find that cleansing water doesn’t strip as much. Usually, I won’t finish the rest of my routine until right before bed. I deep cleanse with my Boscia Charcoal Cleansing Stick followed by the Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Toner. Again, I spray my face with the thermal water, dab in the La Mer Treatment Lotion, and a dropper full of Juno Oil. My new step is that I use an eye cream…I’m loving the Saturday Skin Wide Awake Brightening Eye Cream right now. To seal in all of that moisture, I take a dime sized amount of the La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream and apply it all over my face. Again, I’m “borrowing” my mother’s La Mer for the time being. I haven’t been masking as much, but if I was, I’d use a really good sleeping mask or just anything super hydrating.
