Creating an Oasis – Painting My Walls

Ever since quarantine/lockdown started, I’ve been redecorating my room the way that I want finally. In a previous post, I spoke about the oasis I created where I can just relax and unwind after a long day of work or in this case…quarantining? To be honest, I love decorating my space and actually getting organized. Keep reading if you want to know what I’ve done to my room so far.

In the last two weeks, I’ve been focusing on painting my walls a brand new color and I am enjoying the process so much. I spent days trying to decide on what colors I should paint my walls. Now the reason why I’ve been so deliberate is that I live in the attic space or the bonus room of my parent’s home and it’s a pretty large space. So, I’m attempting to create little nooks within the space to make the vibe more comfy and cozy. I’m choosing different colors to sort of divide the room up in a way that looks cohesive and curated.

I’m sure you’ve seen it in a previous post but I put cedar slats on the wall where my bedroom nook is. I didn’t want it to look too farmhouse so I only did one accent wall instead of all three walls. The surrounding walls were originally gray but my best friend recommended I do a nice off white that looks amazing just about anywhere. She suggested China White by Benjamin Moore. Let me just say…I am head over heels in love with this buttery, creamy white that is incredibly inviting for a color that can be seen as stark. Trust me, it looks even better in person.

Moving over to my office/closet nook, I decided to do something really bold instead of the typical cream, white or gray. I went all out with a deep navy blue with hints of green. Just look up Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball and you just might fall in love too. Choosing a more saturated bold color is so much easier than creams and off-whites. The choice was so simple once I decided on a deep blue. From there, it was only a matter of what brand and what finish. I went with a matte finish by recommendation from my mom. That was by far the best decision ever because I would have been highly upset with a shiny dark blue.

The last wall I’m painting is a large, long wall with a vaulted ceiling. I could easily go with China White but I want a color that won’t make my room look even more expansive but also not something too bold and dark like Hague Blue. This was the paint color I spent days ruminating about. After going back and forth between different colors and scrolling through Pinterest, I’ve narrowed it down to a beige and a cream color. I ordered some samples and painted two squares on the bare wall and I finally made my decision. Unless another beautiful creamier color comes along I’m going with the cream – Mocha Cream! The beige was too mid-toned in my opinion and it also gives me guestroom vibes. The cream has more depth and will most likely look great when the light hits it. To be honest, I might use the beige (Shaker Beige) on my bathroom cabinets if I don’t paint them Hague Blue.

I can’t wait to paint this last wall and be almost done with my room. The next step will be decorating it with new furniture that fits the style I’m going for. I’ve already started purchasing some pieces here and there and can’t wait to showcase it here! Stay tuned for updates on my project if you’re interested. Thanks for reading.
